# Cursor

Ask Cursor to audit an instruction, prompt, or tool-definition file with the `lintlang-audit` skill. It runs LintLang on the file you name and brings the verdict and findings back into your conversation.

## Setup

Use a Cursor version with plugin support, Git, Python 3.10+, and pipx. The [installation guide](/docs/install) covers scanner installation options. Install the scanner:

lintlang --version
```

Open a terminal in an empty scratch directory. Clone the released source into `lintlang-integration-source`, then enter that checkout:

git clone --depth 1 --branch v0.8.0 https://github.com/hermes-labs-ai/lintlang.git lintlang-integration-source
cd lintlang-integration-source
```

Copy the [plugin package](https://github.com/hermes-labs-ai/lintlang/blob/c0cab00048220286858f227aaf4b13cc043f718b/integrations/claude-code) to Cursor's local plugin directory. This first-install command copies only when the destination does not already exist; review an existing installation before replacing it.

test ! -e ~/.cursor/plugins/local/lintlang && cp -R integrations/claude-code ~/.cursor/plugins/local/lintlang
```

Reload Cursor. Under **Customize**, confirm that `lintlang-audit` appears. The repository also includes a Cursor marketplace manifest pointing to this same package.

## Verify your first audit

Open a project containing `AGENTS.md` and ask:

audit AGENTS.md with lintlang
```

The skill should run `lintlang scan --format json` on that file and report the verdict, rule codes, locations, and repair suggestions. It reads the verdict from the JSON: an advisory `FAIL` can still have a successful process exit. Input errors are reported separately.

## How it fits your workflow

This is an on-demand audit skill. The released Cursor package does not run the Claude Code `PostToolUse` hook automatically or rewrite your file. Its runner prefers an installed `lintlang`; with uvx available, it can fall back to the pinned package in an isolated environment.

If the skill is missing, check the local plugin location and reload Cursor. If the runner is missing, check `lintlang --version` in the environment that launches the host. Remove the copied `lintlang` plugin directory and reload to undo this local installation.
