# Install and upgrade

Run LintLang with **Python 3.10+**. The scanner is local and makes no model, telemetry, or network calls. Installation downloads the package and dependencies.

## Run once

With [uv installed](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/):

```sh
uvx lintlang scan --discover .
```

To reproduce this documentation's release exactly:

```sh
uvx --from lintlang==0.8.0 lintlang scan --discover .
```

Run from your project root. Follow [Scan your agent setup](/docs/quickstart) to interpret the results, or try the [standalone example](/docs/first-finding).

## Persistent isolated command

With [pipx installed](https://pipx.pypa.io/stable/installation/):

```sh
pipx install lintlang
lintlang --version
```

If the command is missing, run `pipx ensurepath` and open a new shell. Upgrade with `pipx upgrade lintlang`; remove with `pipx uninstall lintlang`.

## Python environment

Use an existing virtual environment, or create one:

```sh
python -m venv .venv
. .venv/bin/activate
python -m pip install lintlang==0.8.0
lintlang --version
```

On Windows PowerShell, activate with `.venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1`. Upgrade to the current published package with `python -m pip install --upgrade lintlang`; remove with `python -m pip uninstall lintlang`. A system-managed Python may require the virtual environment above.

The published release is [0.8.0 on PyPI](https://pypi.org/project/lintlang/0.8.0/), with `pyyaml>=6.0.3` as its sole runtime dependency. Host plugins can have separate tested pins; follow their [integration guides](/integrations). Homebrew and community packages are not asserted to carry the current release here.
